Thaw provides the definitive Governor - a feat he was to later to repeat in the same field with 'inspector Morse'. Waterman excels as friend and hoppo and went to as great things with 'minder'.
The sig tune has various sets of lyrics from 'regan And Carter - driving a Ford Granada' to 'carter And Regan - driving a Ford Cortina'. The reprise at the end captures melancholy in an instant. In the beginning the credits where semi animated scenes whilst later it swapped to the prism effect with an alarm bell for urgency.
